5 Uses for Empty Biscuit and Sweet Tins

After Christmas we always have a stack of these that I can never throw out.
They are useful for storing craft stuff, lego, crayons, you name it we are sure to have a biscuit tin containing it.

Here are another few uses I've found for them.

#1 Magnetic Board
I used the lid of one to make a mini magnetic board for the  inside of one of my cupboard doors.
I cut out  a panel of fabric to fit inside the lid and glued it on.
I then used a glue gun to stick it to the door.

It is slimline enough to allow the door to close properly and a handy place to keep recipes I use frequently.
I have a head like a sieve (pun intended ) for remembering quantities.

#2 Storage tin
C is a bit like me in that he is a bit of a Womble. He always has lots of little bits and pieces that he just can't part with. These usually sit cluttering the window sill in his bedroom.

He was delighted to use an old Beano comic and PVA glue to make a little storage box from a Quality Street tin to store his treasures in.

#3 Dry Wipe board
N has been using another lid and some dry wipe markers for a little writing board. Rather like the little white boards they use in school, this gives him somewhere to doodle on or practise his spellings and saves on the reams of paper they are inclined to go through.

#4 A Drum
I don't know if my ears thank me for this but R is definitely having fun banging on his drum made from a Roses tin.

I filled it with water and froze it which made it easy to punch holes in.

Then I sprayed it and added some braiding with the glue gun.

A ribbon around the neck means he can march around with his drum as he bashes away at it.

#5 Freezer Container
Perhaps you already know this, but I did not know until recently that the Celebrations tubs can be used for the freezer. It is just the right size to store soup for us.

Other uses for these tins and tubs are:

-Smoking Fish. I saw Jamie Oliver use an old biscuit tin to smoke some fish on one of his programmes which I thought was genius. If you go to the link you can see the recipe for hot smoked salmon with chili salsa.
I definitely want to try this!

- To plant seeds or plants in. I think one of these would be perfect for a shallow planter for little alpines or succulents.

-Candle holder. Set some tea lights on a sweet tin lid with the shiny side up, surround them with glass pebbles for a quick candle display.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has some good uses for these....

  8. Brilliant! Really like the magnetic board and the Beano storage box. I also have a hoarder who LOVES gluing things and is always rooting through my recycling - so a covered tin project would be perfect!

  9. I end up with lots of them as well, some of them are staying with us, some go to the tip, hahaha.. but I have never thought about changing any into a magnetic board. What a spendid idea - must do it myself!!! And your drum rulesssssssssss (although strict rule to only use it outside is probably a very wise move on your side:)
    Hugs:)
